Each year, the Delta Exhibition acts as a measure of the depth of creative work in our region. It is a public presentation of cultural data drawn from selected items produced by artists and artisans associated with the broad alluvial plain of the Mississippi River. Because Historic Arkansas Museum focuses on the collection and exhibition of objects produced by makers connected with Arkansas, our curators and interpretive staff frequently think about what it means to call this place home. In the past as well as the present, Arkansas’s quirky charm, unique experiences, and diverse people contribute to the cultural richness of living and creating in this state – a richness that is on display in this selection of works by Arkansas artists. Steve Spencer’s Dip Cone Kinda Day perfectly captures the humorous end of the spectrum, while Tim Hursley’s Muskogee House series or Ed Pennebaker’s Sedimentary sculpture represent more contemplative examples of Arkansas habits and customs.
